The Top 3 Natural Products That Rock My World

First up, coconut oil.

You know that's a hard one to argue with. It smells good, it moisturizes like nobody's business, and there is probably some more factual evidence that I should be giving you.

For example, it's a natural saturated fat, meaning that it provides the good kind of cholesterol to your body. You can eat it plain, cook in a skillet with it, rub it on your just-shaven legs (does anyone wonder if Michael Phelps does this?), add baking soda to it for a toothpaste substitute, and the list goes on! Here are a few links to intelligent articles about the benefits of coconut oil, if you'd prefer reading something more substantial.

Next in line, avocado.

Green, smooth, always seems to be cool to the touch.... Oh wait, maybe that's my brother's lizard. I'm confused. (What day is it?)

Avocado is super healthy for you. Like, think of your most health-conscious friend - they put avocado on everything, right?! Seems like a reasonable source to get your health food knowledge. Now while it is good for you, it like all things must be taken in moderation. Keep in mind that it's a fat, not a true fruit or vegetable, and read this article if you need some help restricting your intake.

Avocados also have plenty of natural fiber, so no need to buy yourself a Squatty Potty for Christmas this year (but maybe you should...ya know, treat yo'self).

And finally, oats.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what it is that I like about the consistency of oats. That sort of gritty, healthy, raw feel.... Maybe it's my mother's (almost) aggressive love of texture that genetically transferred on to me (she'll be so proud). Regardless, oats are known for preventing heart disease and that sounds like a fair enough reason for making them a part of my weekly diet.

Some more fun facts: oats contain antioxidants, beta-glucan fiber (that keeps your blood sugar relaxed), moisturizing properties, and they're a natural cleanser. Want a long essay to prove it? Okay, why don't you just take two of them.

And would you look at that, you were just given a recipe for an excellent moisturizing hair mask! You're welcome. :)

"Granola Grinch" Hair Mask Recipe:
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats (finely blended)

Puree all three ingredients together and apply to clean, wet hair. Rinse thoroughly after 30 minutes. Happy hair rejuvenation!
